My Plea:
Our Maternity Service provides a wide-range of support and treatment for all of our women, through pregnancy , labour, birth and beyond.
Sadly, not all pregnancies have happy outcomes, so it is absolutely vital that we are able to provide families with the care and support they need, for as long as they require.
At the Royal Derby Hospital, our Bereavement Team Care encompasses the hard work of many different Trust staff from across different specialities, from our Fetal Medicine department, to our Labour Ward, Theatres and Bereavement Midwife.
All of these staff play a key role ensuring our women and families feel supported during this extremely sad time and work together to do everything in our power to make the families’ experience the best it can be under the most difficult circumstances.
We were really touched to see this hard work recognised with this nomination from one of our families, who said:
“We received outstanding care from all the hospital departments involved. They all deserve recognition for their amazing work.
“This nomination is a small way of saying thank you and showing them what a difference they made to use at such a hard time. Your staff really made a difference and we hope to meet them all again in better circumstances.”
We’d like to thank both parents for nominating us at a time of personal loss and we take great pride in the positive comments about the many staff that became part of their treasured son’s journey.
With permission, we have also included a video from another family who also experienced a journey through Fetal Medicine, Labour Ward and Theatres, and we sincerely thank them for agreeing to share these precious moments with us.

I spent 4 days in their care and they were all so supportive, caring and we felt that they dealt with everything we went through in such an appropriate manner. They supported us when we had to make our own difficult decisions, they checked up on me, they ensured i wasn’t in pain and they also made us feel like our baby mattered despite the circumstances. I cannot emphasise enough how much this meant to us and they deserve so much praise.

Lucille, the team certainly are fabulous. The sincerity, warmth and affection that you all radiate whilst you are ‘just doing your job’ touches the lives of us more than you will ever know. The care and support you gave us will stay with us forever. You all shared in our joy and carried us through anxieties, challenges and sadness of having and losing a baby. If the world had more people like you all, it certainly would be a better place. Any mother to be and baby born in your care truly are blessed.

This hospital helped my friends sister and her complicated pregnancy . They were very compassionate and caring through her very upsetting time

No words can really do justice how much the whole team from Royal Derby Hospital helped us through a very traumatic time . From our first meeting with the fetal medicine team who showed care and compassion with a situation that no parent wants to find themselves in to the amazing support from the bereavement midwife up to and after the passing of our beautiful daughter. Sometimes thanks just doesn’t seem enough.
The team at Royal Derby Hospital went above and beyond for my son and my family in 2016. What was one of the worst days of my life was made much more bearable, the midwives and consultants were all compassionate whilst still treating me as a normal patient and even helped me crack a smile a few times. I could not thank them enough and I cannot think of anyone who deserves this award more.
