My Plea:

Wow shortlisted for a Thank you Award, what an honour.

In 2015 I lost my little girl Líadán (pronounced Leah-dawn) to Trisomy 18, it was after she was born, I found the support of Every Life Counts, they were amazing to me and helped me so much.

When the grief of losing Líadán started to ease I decided I wanted to help parents who found themselves in this scary place of a diagnosis when your baby is not going to live,

I will never forget how terrified I felt, how alone, and how I felt I had nowhere to turn, I never wanted another parent to feel those things, at a time where everything is so hard surely some of the pressures and stress could be alleviated.

So, two years ago I started to help with Every Life Counts, and I haven’t looked back since, to be part of something like Every Life Counts, I feel like I’m home, I have found my spot.

People say to me “oh I don’t know how you do it” I reply with “It’s an absolute privilege to be at these parents’ side”

It may be the small things I do like getting a phone number or a contact or it may be taking baby’s prints to make a cast, but I always remember how I felt and how I appreciated support.

I’m so awkward with writing this as I never want any praise or thanks for what I do, and I know each and every person and organisation that has been nominated and even those who haven’t are all doing amazing work and between us all we light the way and support parents that need us, we do it because we feel their pain, we do it to ease a fraction, however small, of that pain.

When I lost Líadán I couldn’t see how anything good could possibly come out of so much pain and loss, but Líadán put me on a path I never thought I would ever ever be on, someone said to me once that the best people go through hell and emerge carrying buckets of water for those still consumed by the fire.

Please take a short look at my video and if you think I’m worthy of a vote thanks, and if not please vote for someone.

Thanks so much for reading my profile and good luck to everyone nominated.

What Others Have Said

On the days in which I have doubted myself, Vicky restored my faith in myself. She reassured me, that I could do what I set out to do. But most importantly, she prepared me to be able to bring my daughter into this world in a gentle, loving, compassionate way. For that, I will never forget her.
