My Plea:
I was so honoured and surprised to have been nominated and shortlisted for Midwife of the Year at the 2018 Butterfly Awards. It is so humbling that bereaved parents find time in their most difficult hours to acknowledge others and what they do.
I have been a Bereavement Support Midwife for four and a half years at Worcestershire Acute Hospitals NHS Trust. I feel passionately that parents should receive individualised compassionate care when their whole world has been turned upside down, by the loss of their baby and all their hopes, dreams and expectations for the future.
I see my role is to ensure that families have all the correct information about options and choices, and to help them make the right decisions for them when they can’t think straight. This approach can then help them to grieve in their own way and navigate their journey to a new normality, because life can never be the same but it can help them to see that there can still be a future.
I feel that when families receive the right support it can make a real difference as we can’t take the pain away but we can create truly special memories that can be cherished forever.
I felt this video sums up exactly what I do and in a recent Care Quality Commission Inspection our Maternity Bereavement Care was noted as an area of outstanding practice in the hospital.
I can only thank the families that I have supported during their loss, as each time it is a unique experience which allows me to learn and strengthen my approach and practice to support others. Thank you to those that have nominated me for this award.
What Other’s Have Said
“Our world fell apart and we were totally heartbroken and distressed at the thought of going through labour under such circumstances. Trudy helped and guided us through every stage of our tragedy, explaining carefully every process when we couldn’t think straight. Trudy helped us take treasured prints of Maggie’s hands and feet, she took snippets of hair and organised for a photographer to come in. Trudy took care of us over Christmas which was incredibly difficult for our family, and she has the amazing ability to predict when we need extra care and support and is with us through every important milestone.”

January 17th 2015 my beautiful daughter Ericajac was born lived and passed away all whilst being in the fantastic care of Worcester royal hospital the care we received from all midwifes involved was second to no. And the following days and weeks after Trudy was just simply a big help the comfort and guidance and support from this lady was a tremendous help for me this lady is well deserving of my nomination
Trudy has ben a friend and colleague for the past 30yrs – her dedication to the role has been unwavering and she puts the needs of others far ahead of her own.
This award is truly deserved by someone who has helped so many cope through such a traumatic time in a way that makes the future seem possible.
My son was stillborn 16/12/16, and in such a heartbreaking time, I cannot thank all the midwives at Worcester royal hospital, especially Trudy. The care and support I received was absolutely amazing, and even now I know that Trudy will be on the end of the phone if needed. I have continually raised money for the bereavement suite since I lost my boy and will carry on doing so, as it is much needed. Trudy deserves this so much??
We lost our beautiful daughter Daisy exactly a year ago today and Trudy was amazing. Nothing was too much trouble and she came out to see us to guide us through such a difficult time. She went above and beyond. Trudy also set up a support group for bereaved parents who were pregnant again and whilst I could only attend one meeting, I felt this was a great help. We since got pregnant again and Trudy sorted out extra scans, fast tracked results and offered support at any time. We welcomed our son into the world 12 days ago and are truly thankful for everything Trudy and the other midwives at Worcester Royal Hospital did for us. I believe she truly deserves this award.
Provided amazing support when we lost our daughter Eden Rose, and then further support when I became pregnant again. A midwife in a million.
Trudy puts the needs of others far beyond her own – I have had the pleasure of being a colleague and friend for 30years and her dedication is always over and above anything expected.
Her support of parents and families during the traumatic time of loss gives hope and strength in such a most unbearable time…so may have felt her warmth and kindness when needed most.
Trudy helped Hannah through a really difficult time.
Great that this special lady is getting the recognition she deserves. The support Trudy gave Jo and I two years ago was fantastic, and she truly deserves this award.

She also was there offering support and strength through the lead up to, and birth, of both of our gorgeous rainbow babies.Worcester hospital is so lucky to have Trudy, if only all hospitals had such a caring, compassionate and supportive bereavement midwife to help people at one of the toughest times in their lives.

Trudy is amazing we lost a baby in October 2016 and Trudy was lovely we received a memory box for our little ‘haven’ Trudy went above and beyond to help us grieve for our little one we lost. It was my first baby and my world was crushed when we sadly miscarried. Then in 2017 I conceived a rainbow baby as I conceived a year later in September just as I had conceived with haven we now have a beautiful 4 and half month old little boy called Finley who has made our life’s complete of course I haven’t completely forgot about haven but I believe he/she has sent us their little brother. Vote Trudy. Gave my friend excellent support.
Trudy was a huge support to my friend and her husband during the most awful time of their lives. I have never met Trudy but am so grateful to her for looking after my friends and making such a difference.
Trudy was a fab bereavement midwife to me when I had my still born baby Michael 4 years ago.
Trudy clearly deserves 100 awards
Trudy is an amazing Bereavement Midwife, always there to support and stand for families that have undergone one of the worse experiences in their lives. She quietly gets on supporting many people, but also ensures that the service is always improving and moving forward to achieve the best possible care for those that have been affected by their loss. Trudy definitely deserves to be nominated!!
Trudy definitely deserves this award.
Trudy is very caring. Does her role with passion. Deserves to win
Trudy totally deserves this our daughter gracie Lou was stillborn in 2013 and she helped me so much during the following 12 months especially during my pregnancy of our rainbow baby Isabelle Trudy was even there when Isabelle was born early but safely 13 months later xxx
We feel so lucky that we had our little boy, Jasper at Worcester Royal Hospital. The support we had from all the staff on the day Jasper arrived unexpectedly early was second to none, but to be at a hospital that has such fantastic bereavement care and to have a wonderful Bereavement Support Midwife like Trudy was so special. The fact that the trust invests so much into bereavement care is a testament to your fantastic work Trudy. I really don’t know what we would have done without you. I really hope other trusts take your lead in investing in bereavement care. I also want to give a special mention to Steph who delivered Jasper. You will always have a special place in our hearts as the midwife who delivered our first son and you did it with so much care and compassion. Worcester is lucky to have such a wonderful team.
Trudy is a truly amazing lady this women is truly a god send ❤️
Trudy is an amazing midwife who I have had the pleasure of calling my friend and working with for 20+ years. She is kind, compassionate and gives care on an individual basis to each family she cares for. She is also constantly striving to improve the service and support that is given to bereaved families and deserves this award for who she is and everything she does
I gave birth to my baby boy Thomas on the 26th March 2017 at 20weeks at WRH and the support I was given especially by Trudy was amazing. Thank you ?
This lady is a hero. She helped my partner and I so much whilst dealing with the loss of our baby boy on 28/8/16. More people need to know of the good that Trudy does, she will always get my vote ❤
Trudy was absolutely amazing when our son was born at 20 weeks in January 2016. She was so caring and compassionate. An absolute angel. When I fell pregnant with my second son Trudy arranged for me to have extra scans and appointments to put my mind at ease. When I had some bleeding at 22 weeks and was admitted to hospital Trudy was there. Although she never came into see me as she knew it would upset me my partner told me that she met him in the hallway and had a chat with him. My son was born at 23 weeks in a different hospital and as soon as he was well enough to come back to Worcester Trudy came to meet him. She even came to have a cuddle with him. Trudy is an amazing person who does such an amazing job.
Trudy deserves this award so much, she truly is an amazing midwife xx
Our baby boy Benjamin was born 22 1/2 weeks old and sadly only lived for 3 precious hours. Trudy was absolutely amazing and without her continuous support I do not know how we would of got through this. Words will never ever be able to thank Trudy enough. I would also like to thank the whole team in Worcester and Ashely who helped us to deliver Benjamin and for their care before and after. Our hearts will never heal and forget but we cannot thank Trudy and everyone else enough for all their support and compassion. Trudy simply deserves this award.xx
Trudy is an angel. She meets people in their darkest most painful hours and somehow manages to lead them back into the light. Even though this is often a long and painful journey, having Trudy there helps you keep going. When we lost our beautiful baby, Rex, at 41 weeks I didn’t think I’d be able to get through the next moment. Trudy helped me through the birth, cuddling my boy, saying goodbye, she came to the funeral and then got me through my pregnancy and was right there with us for the birth of our gorgeous rainbow girl Dot. I’m not sure how she did it but I’ll be forever grateful and I know that if we’re blessed again she’ll be there to get us through. Love you Trudy x
Trudy our daughter
Trudy is very special daughter and we are very proud of the amazing work she does. Trudy deserves this award for her kindness, compassion, love and support she gives to all the parents who have lost their precious babies. So please give our wonderful daughter your vote.
Congratulations.
A huge thank you for your support to my son and daughter in law on the loss of baby Harry. No words can express the gratitude we have for you.
Trudy was amazing after we lost our third baby Isaac. Without Trudy’s support I don’t think I would have survived a third funeral. Thank you Trudy for being there for us.
Trudy was a light in our darkest days, loosing a baby is something u never ever imagine u will go through, but we sadly did and we made it through with the support of Trudy,
She was supporting and kind and always there.
We are now 21 weeks pregnant with our rainbow baby, it’s proving a hard road but Trudy is still their supporting us every step of the way, she truly is amazing and deserves this award.
Words can’t describe what a truly amazing person Trudy is. An honour to work with
I never got to meet Trudy when my son Ethan was stillborn in May 2013 but I’ve heard such wonderful things about her from other grieving parents & all the midwives at Worcester royal hospital are truely amazing so I think Trudy really deserves this award ❤️ Xxx
Trudy was a true blessing when we lost our beloved son. At a time when our whole world was shattered into a million pieces, Trudy was there to hold our hands and guide us through the most darkest time of our lives. Amongst all the pain and heartbreak Trudy helped us create memories with our son which we will treasure forever. She came to visit me long after the loss and is a truly wonderful human being. If it wasn’t for Trudy I know I would still be in a very dark place. I have gone on to have two beautiful children. Trudy is an angel that is there when you are at your lowest point in life. She deserves this award as she has such a special place on alot of families hearts that have lost a baby. May God bless you Trudy and thank you from the bottom of our hearts.
Trudy is the most amazing lady, the most caring, compassionate & kind person, you couldn’t pick anyone more perfect for her role.
Sadly we met Trudy in 2014 when our Son Isaac was Stillborn.
She was there for us for the 2 weeks I was in hospital on ICU & for my Husband in the Bereavement Suite, for our children & our extended family.
She continues to be there for us now if we need her 4 years on.
She always goes above & beyond & is so deserving of this award.
It would be lovely for all her hard work & dedication to be acknowledged & rewarded ?
I also work for the NHS and care very much for the patients I work with. However, what I’ve experienced receiving support from Trudy over the last 6 months is way beyond the level of care you would hope for in the NHS. My feeling has been that she goes beyond what’s expected of her to ensure everyone she meets has an experience that makes their painful journey just that little bit easier, regardless of what sacrifices she needs to make to help with that. Remarkable lady whom I can’t thank enough. Outstanding compassion and support and she is well deserved of this award…and more!
Trudy has been an amazing tower of strength during one of the most difficult times of our lives. Trudy’s continual care, support and understanding have been paramount to helping us through this and her approach is clear to see as this is also shown in others (Ashley & Natalie) that cared for us in the Worcester Maternity Unit recently. We were looked after by Trudy and the midwife team in the past week so things are still very raw but so much better for having Trudy’s excellent care. She truly deserves every recognition as without her this would have been a much more traumatic time. The NHS have exceeded all levels of care you could imagine and people like Trudy should be so very proud and rewarded for their excellence xx
