My Plea:

My name is Vicky Rose and I own a company called Sugar Oh Honey Honey. I make memorial jewellery with photos, hair and ashes. This business was made in loving memory of my beautiful daughter Honey Rose.

Firstly I want to thank the wonderful lady that nominated me for this award. Steph from BeyondBeaCharity that is also up for an award and I would love everyone to go and vote for her as she is the most incredible woman.

My work is so bittersweet, I love what I do everyday and am so blessed that people from all over the world trust me to make something beautiful with their loved ones ashes but I also wish people didn’t have the need for my work, especially mothers and fathers of babies.

This business has become by baby and I’ve watched it grow and change over the past 5 years and I’m so proud of what it has become.

After I lost my daughter I wanted something I could keep of hers to carry with me. I searched lots of different companies and I felt that no one cared that she was my daughter. I felt like it was just about the exchange of money and it didn’t matter whose ashes it was. I didn’t feel I could trust her to anyone. Here I was with a tiny bag of ashes, the only physical thing I had left of my whole world and companies didn’t seem to care.

In my business before I owned a fairy shop and I made jewellery pieces to sell. I knew I wanted to offer a service to other people like me that wanted a keepsake and to give it to someone that they felt really cared. That wanted to know about the person that was coming to be made into something beautiful. I spend a year designing and testing lots of different methods and metals until I was happy with the quality of the jewellery.

I had a workshop made that had little houses for every person. I wanted to give my customers peace of mind that no one would ever get mixed up so I make every stage of the jewellery in their own little “House”. I asked for photos and songs and a little bit about the person so I could play their favourite music and chat to them.

I believe that when we leave this place we leave an energy behind and the jewellery is just another part of the persons story. I want the people trusting me with these precious ashes to know that I truly care about the people that come to me. Every person is unique and has a name and a story and that love needs to be put into the making of the jewellery.

This business is very emotionally draining but I know that I’m making a difference in my tiny little way. I want people like myself to find me. People that want something to hold onto and feel comforted by, mothers who don’t have their babies to hold, wives that don’t have their husbands, children without their mothers.

These tiny little keepsakes have made the difference to myself and so many others and I am so honoured that people come to me to have these made.
My daughter is not here with me to watch her grow but the strength and love she gave me is in every piece I make. She is not here to live her life so I have to live for the both of us.

I have been fortunate enough to be able to donate Cold Cots to our local hospital in Honeys name and I have a tree planted for every person/pet that I make into jewellery that is helping to rebuild a forest for orangutan orphans.

I think everyone deserves to win these awards. Losing a child is something no one should ever have to go through. We expect to lose our grandparents and parents but to carry a tiny coffin with your whole world inside is something no one should ever have to face. The unbelievable bravery of every single parent who can go on and make a positive difference in the world after losing a child is awe inspiring.

I am humbled and honoured to be nominated and to be in a room filled with the strongest and most inspiring people is going to be a day I’ll never forget.

Thank you for acknowledging all these amazing parents, the world around us can be hard for angel parents and this subject unfortunately will always be too painful for most to understand or acknowledge so to have an award and to be seen as a parent doing something incredible for your child is beyond amazing.

Thank you x
What Others Have Said

After a chat about the details of how the process would work I ordered a ring to contain Bea’s ashes. The guilt I felt when sending a package containing Bea’s ashes was unbearable but as soon as the package arrived, Vicky messaged me to say “Bea has arrived”, she remained in touch at every process and even went to the effort to ask for information about Bea including a photo she could display whilst making the ring and a special song she could play whilst making the ring, with “somewhere over the rainbow” being Bea’s song, I chose this.
