It’s been 6 years and we have never forgotten everything they did for us. We were given privacy and time, a chance to wash her and dress her (which meant so much considering we have missed out on the chance to see her smile, hear her laugh or cry). They took plenty of photos, including the whole family with her. Now and again they would come in the room and ask to see her and hold her, which meant a lot as they were still acknowledging the little person she was.
I spent 4 days in their care and they were all so supportive, caring and we felt that they dealt with everything we went through in such an appropriate manner. They supported us when we had to make our own difficult decisions, they checked up on me, they ensured i wasn’t in pain and they also made us feel like our baby mattered despite the circumstances. I cannot emphasise enough how much this meant to us and they deserve so much praise.
The Butterfly Pathway, Bradford
Chakra is a Consultant Neonatologist who co-ordinates a team including Consultant Obstetricians, Sonographers, Screening Midwife and Bereavement Midwife alongside the local Forget-Me-Not hospice team, to provide support and care for women and families who receive an antenatal diagnosis of a baby with a lethal anomaly, who decide to continue the pregnancy. The team work together to provide continuity during the antenatal and post natal period, extending to the intrapartum period where possible.
We lost our daughter Vera ‘Little V’ Marston on 20.08.17 at 22+5, we found out due to reduced movements and delivered our baby girl in the snowdrop suite – after bringing V into the world we were introduced to Claire, Louise and Celia who helped us with key choices of our daughter. Their work is invaluable to people like us, and they are a credit to the bereavement community in their professionalism, dignity and kindness in our darkest hours, it was an honour to share our lightest and happiest times welcoming our rainbow baby girl. We owe them so much.
This midwife who delivered our beautiful sleeping princess was incredible. Her calm and caring nature got us through such a difficult time. She explained everything, didn’t leave our sides and even stayed later than her shift until I had delivered our baby and stayed longer so she could dress our daughter and get some hand and footprint pictures made for us before she went home. She made sure she came back at the end of the shift to say goodbye to everyone, including myself, my partner, all of my family and especially our daughter.
They made the most awful time we had special. They had activities to take part in which could be done in the main house or in the room Theo was staying in. Mary and all the other nurses are true angels. They allowed us to be a family in place we could call home. We didn’t have to worry about anything. Without them we wouldn’t have all those nice memories to look back on and show family and friends.
The care our son received and the support they gave our family was amazing. They were all so kind and caring and helped us learn to care for our boy in the time he was with us. We can never thank them all enough. The consultant caring for Sonny, Dr Kennea, was amazing. He always took time to talk with us and ensure we were involved. The way he handled and cared for Sonny was filled with kindness. He also attended Sonny’s funeral which really meant a lot to us.
Monica and Jo provide phenomenal care to women and work tirelessly to provide a caring and compassionate service. I am a student midwife working on placement at the trust and have been really proud to see midwives working at such a high standard and with such commitment for women at what is a extremely difficult time for them. Monica and Jo are caring and compassionate and give the women the time they need for support. They show commitment to excellence, good teamwork and are able to continually improve the service for women.
I would like to vote for st George’s neonatal unit. The work they do is special and filled with compassion and kindness.
The St George’s Neonatal team were amazing whilst our son spent time on the unit. He sadly passed away but during the time we were there the nurses ensured that he was cared for and comfortable. The doctors did the absolute best that could in an awful situation.
